My first entry... what to write?

I have been thinking about writing a blog for a while now. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, I am a bit of a thinker and I reckon that it would help if I got some of my thoughts onto a page. Secondly, the more I talk with other people, the more I realise that the things that I grapple with others grapple with too. Maybe me spilling my guts could help someone else in some way. The final reason is a little bit more mysterious. I have a distinct feeling that God wants me to set up this blog. I am not sure why, but I don't need to know why to do it. So here we go, I am blogging!

Last week and today my Year Nine class worked through Romans 8. I love this section of scripture. I love it because of the contrast with the last part of Romans 7. Romans 7 points out that we cannot save ourselves. We are powerless because of sin. I want to serve God in every area of my life, but no matter what I do there will always be aspects of my life that are not under His command. I encouraged my students by saying that Romans 8 brings us great hope. It brings us hope because Jesus has paid the tab for us, the condemnation we deserve was placed on his shoulders. Because of this we have been given the Spirit, God living in us, sin has no place in our lives anymore. When life gets difficult and we don't know what to pray for, the Spirit intercedes for us. God chose us from the beginning, nothing will get in his way. I love the last section of the verse, nothing in all creation can separate us from God's love because of what Jesus has done.

I am so thankful that I work at a school where I am encouraged, equipped and free to teach my students about these things. These opportunities mean that I have immense responsibilities. Much is expected of those who have been blessed richly.

Other highlights of the week have been the continuing growth of our animal population. To add to Archie the dog, Gumby the cat, the chooks, zebra finches, fish and Harry the lamb is Daisy. Daisy is a young Golden Retriever. She is much lighter than Archie and she is fitting in well. Kerry sure has her hands full with the boys and the 'farm'.

I am not sure how often I will make posts. They could happen a few times a week or maybe less. It feels a bit weird to make these thoughts public, but here goes anyway.
